In temperatures reaching 95 degrees on Tuesday afternoon, the Butte High girls’ soccer team fought hard against a very talented Helena High team ultimately falling 10 – 0.
Despite the loss, Coach Steve Shahan was very pleased the improvement and teamwork the girls displayed. He reported that Kali Burke showed strength and determination, working hard on the field while feeling under the weather and Haley Carver played her best game yet recording two saves from her center back position.
Making her season debut, Autumn Silk brought speed and leadership to the filed while Jessie LaPier worked hard at goal. Hayla Hoffman, Aydin Gonzales, Elli Quist and Catherine Sholey did a great job of defending the middle field and winning balls.
In addition, lots of girls saw their first action of the season and, in some cases, their career. Coach Shahan was happy to report that the subs and JV players brought energy and great attitudes to both games stating, “As a coach, It’s a great feeling to see your team’s confidence, teamwork and skills grow each game.”
The Butte High girls will welcome Helena Capital to their home turf on Thursday, game starts at 5:00.
