Hawks top Dogs on Bozeman track

BOZEMAN — Bozeman swept Butte High’s track teams in a dual meet Thursday afternoon.

Bozeman’s boys outscored the Bulldogs 148-106 in the meet. On the girls’ side, the Hawks won 297-209.

Erika McLeod picked up a pair of victories to lead the Bulldog girls. McLeod won the 400 in 1 minute, 0.65 seconds and claimed first in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 10 1/2 inches. She also placed third in the triple jump.

Carlie Haeffner won the high jump by clearing 5-1, while Natalee Faupel jumped to first place in the triple jump with a mark of 33-1 1/2. Faupel also placed second in the javelin.

McKenzee O’Neill won the javelin and qualified for the State meet with a throw of 119-2.

Rashae Emerson returned to action and won the shot put with a mark of 34-9 1/4. Butte High also picked up victories in both relays.

Other top performers for the Bulldog girls were Sammy McGree (second in 200 and third in the long and triple jump), Mariah Richardson (second in the 800), Andie Hogan (second in the 1,600), Kassie Caprara (second in the long jump), Jessie Buckley (second in the shot put) and Cherylnn Harper (second in the discus).

Dalton Daum won the 100-meter dash in 11.18 seconds, Keadon Caprara won the 300 hurdles in 42.05 and Peter Granger cleared 5-9 to win the high jump to lead the Butte High boys.

The Bulldogs also grabbed a victory in the 400 relay.

Caprara placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the triple jump, while Zach Bunney placed second in the 100 and 200.

Other second-place finishers for the Bulldogs were Paul Campbell (400), Nic Raiser (3,200), Damien Hayden (triple jump), Anthony Moritz (shot put) and Jake Dennehy (discus).

Butte High’s next action will be next week at the Eastern AA Divisional meet in Great Falls.
