Hamilton-Browning game will be played in Hamilton

The Hamilton Broncs and Browning Indians will not be playing in Butte today after all, Butte High activities director Chuck Merrifield said this morning.

Hamilton decided to play their home game at home, Merrifield said. The schools had decided to play the game at Naranche Stadium yesterday because of poor air quality in the Bitterroot Valley.

This morning, the Department of Environmental Quality lists the air quality in Hamilton as “unhealthy.” However, the air quality is listed as the same in the Mining City.

Corvallis was considering moving its game with Polson to Naranche Stadium. The school will make the call later this morning.

Merrifield said in the unlikely event that game is moved to Butte, it will be played at 3 or 4 p.m., not 7 p.m. as published in The Montana Standard. Merrifield said the 7 p.m. time slot is saved for Eureka and Thompson Falls, though it is unlikely that those teams will move the game to Butte.
