Frenchtown’s upset bid fell just short Friday afternoon at the Southwestern A District boys’ basketball tournament at the Maroon Activities Center.
Top-seeded Hamilton made just enough free throws down the stretch, and Hamilton won the battle of the Broncs with a 69-64 semifinal victory. (Stats)
Hamilton (16-3) will play in Saturday’s 6:30 p.m. championship game. Frenchtown (12-8) will battle Stevensville (2-17). The winner of that loser-out game heads to the third-place game and next week’s Western A Divisional tournament in Hamilton.
Hunter Omlid scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Hamilton, which saw four players reach double figures. He also had a key steal and grabbed a couple clutch rebounds down the stretch.
Tanner Goligoski scored 17 points, while Carson Rostad tossed in 15 and Trey Searle scored 10.
Cade Baker scored 22 of his game-high 25 points in the first half to lead Frenchtown. Jared Cole scored 11, while Devin Shelton tossed in 10.
