Hailey Hoagland tied for 12th at Rose City Collegiate

AURORA, Ore. — University of Montana Junior Hailey Hoagland, with six birdies over 36 holes, shot rounds of 73 and 74 on Monday as the Montana women’s golf team opened play at the Rose City Collegiate. Hoagland is tied for 12th.

The two-day, three-round tournament is being played at the Langdon Farms Golf Club.

Montana shot rounds of 307 and 312, and is tied for 13th with Texas-Rio Grande Valley in the 15-team field. The Grizzlies had to count one score in the 80s in round one and a pair of scores in the 80s in round two.

Hoagland, a Butte High graduate, was seven strokes better than any of her teammates on Monday. She had a clean two-birdie, three-bogey card in round one for a 1-over 73. She had four birdies in round two’s 74. Those were partly offset by a double-bogey seven on the par-5 7th, her only double of the day.

Freshman Teigan Avery had rounds of 77 and 77 and is tied for 44th at 10-over.

Montana’s other three players all had at least one round in the 80s. Junior Kari Opatz (76-80) is tied for 54th, sophomore Baylee Barckley (81-81) is tied for 74th, and freshman Caitlyn Villatora (86-82) is in 85th place.

Seven players are under par through two rounds, led by Cal State Fullerton’s Martina Edberg (70-70) and Oregon State’s Elyse Smidinger (73-67), both of whom are sitting 4-under.

Sacramento State (294-289), with three players tied for 12th or better, holds the day-one lead by two strokes over Oregon State (290-295).

Montana is in eighth place out of the eight Big Sky Conference teams competing.
