Hafer ties for top spot, loses scorecard playoff

BILLINGS — This time the scorecard playoff didn’t work out for Shealyn Hafer.

The Butte High senior golfer tied for first place at the Billings Invitational  on Tuesday. She followed Monday’s 81 at the Briarwood Golf and Country Club with a 2-over-par 74 at the EagleRock Golf Course for a 155 total.

Hafer tied with Billings Senior’s Kortney McNeil at 155 for the top spot. McNeil, who also shot 81-74, won a scorecard playoff for medalist honors.

Last week, Hafer won a similar playoff over Teigan Avery of Kalispell Glacier for the Great Falls Invitational title.

Hannah Zwemke Billings West placed third at 158, followed by Morgan O’Neil of Laurel and Mike’la Atkinson of Billings West at 162.

Butte High senior Hailey Ogolin improved nine shots from Monday for an 81 to place eighth at 171.

Senior and Great Falls High tied for the top team spot at 726. The Bison made up 22 shots on Senior in the final day.

Butte High shot a 356 on Tuesday for a 770 and sixth place. Sophomore Alexis Williams shot a second-round 88 for the Bulldogs.

Billings West won the boys’ team title at 614 after a blistering 296 on Tuesday. Senior was second at 625.

Butte High placed ninth at 670. The Bulldogs improved 20 shots from Monday for a 325 on Tuesday.

Trey Hoagland fired a 77 on the final round for a 162 total to lead the Bulldogs. Isaiah Weldon shot an 84 for a 167 total, while Houston Green jumped from 90 to a 79 on Tuesday for a 169. Also, Will Kilmer improved two shots for an 85 and a 172, and Andy Kelly got nine shots better for an 89 and a 187.

Sean Benson of Senior fired a 3-under 69 on Tuesday for a 1-under 143 total and medalist honors. Joey Moore of West and Easton Enott of Great Falls Russell tied for second at 149.

The Bulldog golfer are back in action Sept. 4-5 when they host a tournament at Fairmont Hot Springs.
