Hafer sets course record at Powell County Invite

DEER LODGE — Butte golfers Alexis Williams and Huston Green won their age groups at the South West Montana Junior Golf Tour’s Powell County Invitational Monday.

The day, though, belonged to Butte golfer Shealyn Hafer.

The soon-to-be Butte High senior matched par with a course-record 72 at the Deer Park Golf Course to run away with the Suzann Pettersen Division for girls 16-17.

The previous course record for women was a 75 set by Betty Minemyer 23 years ago.

Hafer carded four birdies and four bogies in her record-setting round. She shot a 1-under 35 on the front nine and a 1-over 37 on the back nine.

Fellow Butte High golfer Hailey Ogolin was second in the division at 87.

Williams won the Stacy Lewis Division for girls 14-15 with an 88. Butte’s Tricia Joyce finished one shot back, while Helena’s Jamie Wilson placed third at 93.

Green shot an 80 to edge fellow Butte golfer Will Hoagland by one shot to win the Rory McIlroy Division for boys 14-15. Isaiah Weldon of Butte was third at 83.

In the Tiger Woods Division for boys 16-17, Helena’s Travis Wright won with an 82. Logan Teegarden of Clancy was second at 84, followed by Butte’s Will Kilmer at 85.

Max Feight of Whitehall won the Phil Mickelson Division for boys 12-13. He shot a 40 in the nine hole.

The next stop on the SWMJGT is next Monday at the Beaverhead Open in Dillon.
