Hafer rolls to win at Beaverhead Open

DILLON — Butte golfer Shealyn Hafer was on a roll Monday.

The soon-to-be Butte High junior carded a 3-over-par 75 at the Beaverhead Golf Course to win the Beaverhead Open. She posted the best score — girl or boy — in the tournament, which was the third stop of the South West Montana Junior Golf Tour.

Butte High classmate Hailey Ogolin placed second in the girls’ 16-17 age group at 81, followed by Butte High senior Hailey Hoagland at 83. Hoagland won the first two stops on the SWMJGT.

Anaconda golfer Jackson Wagner won the boys’ 16-17 age group and posted the low boys’ score with a 77. Wisdom’s Bryce Heesacker and Helena’s Tristan Carlson tied for second at 83.

Butte’s Will Kilmer posted his second win in his second tournament. Kilmer, who didn’t play last week’s Silver Bow Open because of a basketball camp, shot an 85 to win the boys’ 14-15 group. He beat Helena’s Taggart Sullivan by one shot.

Butte’s Isaiah Weldon shot a 42 to win the nine-hole boys’ 12-13 group. Missoula’s Shawn Ryan placed second in that age group with a 45. Butte’s Brandon Quinn was third at 47. In all, 16 boys played in that age group.

The tour will now take two weeks off. The next stop is the July 15 Fairmont Invitational.
