Grizzlies’ Jamar is Big Sky POW

OGDEN, Utah — Kareem Jamar of The University of Montana has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for games played between Feb. 4-9.

Jamar, a 6-foot-5 guard/forward from Venice, Calif, averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds. 6.5 assists, 2.5 steals and two blocks per game as the Grizzlies picked up home victories over Northern Colorado and North Dakota on an historic weekend. In the two games, Jamar shot .545 percent from the field, and .857 percent from the free-throw line.

Jamar netted 18 points with eight rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocks in Montana’s 73-63 win over Northern Colorado on Thursday. He was 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Montana clinched a berth in the Big Sky Championship with the win.

On Saturday, the All-Conference player netted 14 points with nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal in a 78-58 victory over North Dakota.

Montana has won 25 consecutive Big Sky Conference regular-season games, a league record. The previous mark of 24 was set by Weber State 40 years ago. Montana also set the league record for consecutive regular-season home victories with 24. The previous record was 23 set by Idaho 30 years ago.  Including postseason games, Montana has won 27 straight over Big Sky competition and 27 straight at home over Big Sky teams.

Montana has won 14 straight games, which ties the longest winning streak in school history. UM’s streak is currently tied with Memphis for the second-longest active streak in the nation. Akron has won 15 games.
