MISSOULA — The 4th-ranked University of Montana Grizzlies will host the 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a second-round 2013 NCAA Division I Football Championships playoff game Saturday, Dec. 7, in UM’s Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Kickoff is at noon.
Coastal Carolina (11-2) advances on to the second round with its 48-24 victory over visiting Bethune-Cookman (10-3) today in a first-round game played in Conway, South Carolina. The Chanticleers (pronounced: Shon-ti-cleers) were the automatic qualifier from the Big South Conference.
The Grizzlies (10-2) were seeded eighth in this season’s 24-team playoffs which earned them a first-round bye. Montana received at- large berth into the playoffs.
Quarterback Alex Ross, a 6-1, 200-pound sophomore, led CCU in its win over Bethune-Cookman, completing 13-of-18 passes for 256 yards and 4 touchdowns. Coastal rushed 37 times for 217 yards and two scores. CCU led 27-10 at halftime.
Montana’s two setbacks this year were 33-16 at 8th-ranked Northern Arizona and 42-37 to 3rd-ranked Eastern Washington. CCU’s two losses this season were 31-26 on the road to 16th-ranked Charleston Southern, and 70-10 at FBS powerhouse South Carolina.
