Griz senior guard Jordan Gregory named All-District VIII

MISSOULA — University of Montana guard Jordan Gregory has been named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association 2014-15 men’s All-District VIII team, based on the voting from its national membership of 900-plus, the organization announced today.

The 10 players selected for the prestigious all-district squad represent teams from seven different states, including Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.  The USBWA has selected the All-District team since the 1956-57 season, its founding year, and Gregory is the only player from the Big Sky to be so-honored in 2014-15.

A 6-foot-2 senior from Pueblo, Colorado, Gregory was recently named to the Big Sky Conference’s first team (as was Griz junior forward Martin Breunig).  He led Montana and is ranked fifth in the league in scoring averaging 16.8 points a game.

Gregory is also ranked third (tie) in the Big Sky in three-pointers made per game (2.7) and minutes played per game (35.7), 10th in free throw percentage (78.3%), and 11th in assists (3.3 apg).  He was an honorable mention all-league pick last season.  He is currently ranked (250 players ranked) 93rd in the nation in scoring, 46th in three-point percentage (38.9%), and 54th in treys made per game.

Gregory is currently ranked 16th in school history in scoring with 1,159 career points.  He has played in 107 career games with 79 starts.

Montana, 18-11 overall, was the league’s regular-season co-champion with a 14-4 conference record. The Griz earned the right to host the Big Sky’s eight-team post-season tournament, which will be played in Missoula and UM’s Dahlberg Arena, March 12-13-14.
