Griffins, Saints move on

Westminster College and Carroll College won semifinal games Frontier Conference women’s basketball playoffs tonight.

Westminster, the No. 1 seed, beat Montana Western 64-39 in Salt Lake City, while second-seeded Carroll topped MSU-Northern 73-52 in Helena. The Griffins and Saints will play for the Frontier Conference title Monday in Salt Lake.

Tia Pappas came off the bench to score 19 points and grab eight rebounds to lead the Griffins (26-3), who outscored Western 43-17 in the second half to overcome a 22-21 halftime deficit.

Nicole Yazzie added 12 points in the win. Cydney Tibbitts pulled down 11 boards.

Brittney Leibenguth scored 12 points to lead Western, which closed the season at 16-16. Sammi Bignell and Roxy Thurman each scored six points.

Carroll College 73, MSU-Northern 52
Carroll (20-8) also used a big second half, outscoring Northern 47-28 to break open a game that was 26-24 at halftime.
Torrie Cahill’s 25 points led the way for the Saints, who saw three players in double figures. Bailey Snelling scored 11 points, while Megan Patterson netted 10.

Butte High graduate Joey O’Neill, who scored 2 points, contributed with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Laci Keller scored 17 to lead the Skylights (17-13). Jordan Bruursema scored 10.
