Griffins hold off Skylights in Frontier title game

SALT LAKE CITY — Westminster College’s last Frontier Conference game was a great one.

The Griffins held on to beat MSU-Northern 62-61 Monday night in the championship game of the Frontier Conference women’s basketball tournament. Stats

Westminster led 62-58 before MSU-Northern’s Jacy Thompson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Tia Pappas scored 16 points to lead three Griffins in double figures as No. 4-ranked Westminster ran its record to 25-2. Amy Krommenhoek scored 13 points, while Mika Pinner scored 10 points. Shelby Ellsworth tossed in eight.

A’Jha Edwards scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Skylights, who fell to 27-5. Taylor Cummings scored 15 points for the Skylights, while Butte High graduate Natalee Faupel tossed in 10. Faupel also grabbed four rebounds.

The Griffins, who are moving to NCAA Division II next season, captured the automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament. The Skylights will undoubtedly also get a berth in the tourney.
