Gransbery wins CMR title, Bulldogs place third

GREAT FALLS — Sophomore Keagan Gransbery led the way Saturday as Butte High’s wrestling placed third at the CMR Holiday Classic at the CMR Fieldhouse.

Gransbery took home the championship in the 103-pound division. In doing so, he ran his record to 16-0 on the season.

Gransbery beat Circle’s Krayle Stormer, the No. 1 ranked 103-pound wrestler in the B/C, in the semifinals before topping Wyatt Van Pelt of Billings West 6-2 in the title match. Gransbery is the top-ranked 103-pound grappler in the Class AA.

Bozeman took home the team title with 241 points. Billings West placed second at 187.5, while Butte High finished third at 171.

Missoula Big Sky at 162.5, Helena Capital at 162 and Billings Senior at 160.5 round out the top six. The tournament saw 53 teams score points.

In all, seven Bulldogs placed in the top eight in the tournament that featured 64-man brackets in each weight class.

Wil Queer (113 pounds), Scout Allen (126) and Anthony Liva (132) all fell in their semifinal matches, only to battle back and place for the Bulldogs.

Liva placed fourth, Queer took fifth, and Allen grabbed sixth place.

Also for Butte High, Kameron Moreno placed fourth at 205 pounds, Carl Anderson took sixth at 152, and Kole McGrath took eighth.

Bulldogs Connor Konda (120), Dylan Averyt (145) and Quinn Sullivan also advanced to the second day of the tournament.

Butte Central’s Clay Fisher bowed out in the consolation round early Saturday. The Maroons placed 48th with 19 points. BC sent four wrestlers to the meet.
