Nice weather is in the forecast for Wednesday when more than 580 young athletes will take Bulldog Memorial Stadium for the annual Grade School Track Meet.
Action begins 1 p.m., and the final event, the 400-meter relay, is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Wednesday’s event will give the area athletes a chance to stack up against each other and the Butte athletes from previous generations.
Meet records date back as far as 1979 when Hillcrest’s Jackie Street set the meet record in the girls’ 400-meter dash.
Other names on the record books include Jennifer Stolarz, Tami Mathewson, Josh Paffhausen, Keli Dennehy, Mollie McIntyre, Zach Osborne, Kelly Connole and Kloie Thatcher.
Last year, Hillcrest easily defended its team title. Butte Central fifth grader Aaron Richards set the only record of the 2013 meet. He broke a 9-year-old mark in the shot put.
The meet is put on by the Butte Athletic Council.
