This wasn’t the way the Butte High volleyball team wanted to send off their seniors.
The Bulldogs again struggled with consistency and fell 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 to Billings West Saturday afternoon at the Ross J. Richardson Gymnasium.
The loss put a damper on Senior Day as seniors Hannah Amtmann, Erika Spear, Paige Powers, McKenna Dahlman and Mikayla McGivern played their last home game for the Bulldogs.
Anna Jurovich and Karlie Cleveland each tallied eight kills to pace the Bears, who had little problem with the Bulldog blocking game.
“We made it through an entire match without a single block,” Bulldog coach Dale Burgman said while perusing the state sheet. “That’s got to be a record.”
McGivern tallied eight kills and Abby Dodge spiked seven to pace the Bulldogs, who got three kills apiece form Dahlman and Jenna Maroney.
Amtmann once again left everything on the court, hitting the floor repeatedly to collect a match-high 21 digs, while Maroney turned in another solid all-around performance with nine digs.
Spear dished up 14 assists for Butte High, which fought until the final point.
“We started pretty strong, too,” Burgman said. “Once again there was just no consistency. We don’t do a lot of the little things that we’re capable of doing. We can’t keep giving teams nine or 10 points.”
The Bulldogs close out the regular season Friday night at Billings Senior. That game was moved up a day because of Halloween.
