A new Butte organization is hoping to make sure the cost of equipment never stands between a kid and the opportunity to participate.
Gear Up 406, founded by Danielle Hall, is a community-driven program providing free sports and dance equipment to local youth who need it. The idea is simple: collect new and gently used gear from around the community, get it back into the hands of kids, and keep usable equipment in play instead of sitting in garages and closets.
There are no applications and no hoops for families to jump through. If a kid needs gear, Gear Up 406 wants to help.
The organization will accept equipment for all sports as well as dance, and families will also have the opportunity to exchange gear their children have outgrown for equipment they can use now.
Gear will be stored at Big Sky Rental, with distribution days announced ahead of each sports season. Gear Up 406 also plans to hold community equipment drives throughout the year as it builds its inventory.
Hall founded the organization around a straightforward belief: every kid deserves the opportunity to participate, regardless of whether their family can afford all the equipment that comes with it.
The organization is currently forming its leadership team, with a board meeting scheduled next week to place members into their respective positions.
Community members who have new or gently used equipment to donate can begin helping immediately. Anyone with questions or wishing to arrange a donation can contact info@gearup406.com.

Every kid. Every sport. Every opportunity.
