The Frontier Conference announced the men’s and women’s Basketball Players of the Week awards today. Here they are:
Women
Ornela Bacchini of Lewis-Clark State was named the Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Bacchini is a 5-foot-2 junior center from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Warriors won two games on the road. Lewis-Clark State beat Montana State-Northern 78-76 in double overtime and the University of Great Falls 75-65. For the weekend, she averaged 23.5 points, seven rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals. She was 18 of 26 from the field (69 percent) and 11 of 12 (92 percent) from the free throw line. In the double overtime win over Northern, Bacchini scored 28 points including the game winning shot. Also nominated: Sammi Bignell of Montana Western, Torrie Cahill of Carroll College, Kelsey Dewit of Montana Tech, Erin Legel of the University of Great Falls, Brittany Myers of Rocky Mountain College, Nikki Tresch of Montana State-Northern and Kelsi Wells of Westminster College.
Men
James Holmes of the University of Great Falls (UGF) was named the Frontier Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Holmes is a 6-foot-6 senior forward from Las Vegas, Nev. The Argos won two conference games over the weekend, beating No. 3 Lewis-Clark State (LCSC) 64-59 and Montana Tech 62-58. Holmes averaged 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and one steal. He was 10 of 20 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free throw line. In the win over Lewis-Clark, Holmes scored 16 points including 75 percent shooting from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. The win over No.3 LCSC was the Argos second victory over a nationally ranked team in three games. Lewis-Clark was also the highest ranked opponent defeated by the Argos since basketball was reinstated at the University of Great Falls. Also nominated: P.J.
