Frontier names weekly honors

The Frontier Conference announced the men’s and women’s Basketball Players of the Week awards today. Here they are:


Marcel Towns of the University of Great Falls was named the Frontier Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Towns is a 6-foot-2 junior guard from Tempe, Ariz. The Argos won two conference games over the weekend, winning at Carroll College 84-80 and downing Rocky Mountain at home in overtime 85-84. Towns averaged 26 points, 3.5 rebounds, two assists and three steals. He was 19 of 30 from the field, made 5 of 13, 3-point field goals and was 9 of 12 from the free throw line. His free throw in overtime against Rocky proved to be the winning point. Towns’ 28 points against Rocky carried him over the 1,000 career points milestone. Also nominated: Adam Greger of Montana Tech, Devon Jackson of Montana State-Northern, Nick Jones of Carroll College, Danny Marshall of Lewis and Clark, Jeremy Nicholas of Rocky Nicholas and Jake Orchard 0f Westminster.


Nicole Yazzie of Westminster College was named the Frontier Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Yazzie is a 5-foot-7 senior guard from West Valley, Utah. The Griffins went 2-0 on a conference road trip. Westminster beat Montana Tech 62-48 and Lewis-Clark State 64-43. For the weekend, she averaged 15 points, five rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals. She was 9 of 19 from the field, 4 of 11 in 3-point field goals and 8 of 11 from the free throw line. Also nominated: Torrie Cahill of Carroll College, Kylee Denham of Montana State-Northern, Tanis Fuller of Lewis-Clark State, Brittany Kumm of Rocky Mountain College, Erin Legel of the University of Great Falls and Mandy Machinal of Montana Tech.
