WHITEFISH — Players from Eastern Oregon University and Rocky Mountain College were named Frontier Conference Football Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: Christopher McGinnis-Parker, Eastern Oregon, 5-foot-7, 185-pound senior running back from Stockton, Calif. Parker was also named the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week. In Eastern Oregon’s 35-31 conference win over then No. 3 Carroll College, McGinnis-Parker rushed for 187 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries. He also caught one pass for 19 yards and one touchdown. That touchdown reception proved to be the game-winning score. Also nominated: Sonny Ah Kui of Rocky Mountain College, Austin Dodge of Southern Oregon, Zach McKinley of Montana State-Northern and Dustin Rinker of Carroll College.
Defensive Player of the Week: Matt Gayman, Eastern Oregon, 5-foot-11, 215-pound senior linebacker, from Austin, Wash. In Eastern Oregon’s 35-31 conference win over then No. 3 Carroll College, Gayman had eight solo tackles, six assisted tackles and two tackles for loss (-10 yards) and two quarterback sacks. He anchored the Mountaineer defense that held Carroll scoreless in the fourth quarter. Also nominated: Corey Bummer of Rocky Mountain College, Trevor Kuyper of Southern Oregon, Chance Smith of Carroll College and Jordan Van Voast of Montana State-Northern..
Special Teams Player of the Week: Ryan Steska, Rocky Mountain College, 5-foot-9, 190-pound, junior kicker from Mission Viejo, Calif. In then No. 18 Rocky’s 13-6 conference win over then No. 21 Montana Tech, Steska kicked a 32 yard field goal and was 1 for 1 in PATs. Also nominated; Marc David of Eastern Oregon, Victor Fermin of Montana State-Northern and Connor Smith of Carroll College.
L-C State hitter earns volleyball honor
WHITEFISH, Mont., Sept. 30, 2013 – Niurka Toribio of Lewis-Clark State was named the Frontier Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.
Toribio is a 6-foot-2 senior outside hitter from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Lewis-Clark split their weekend conference home series. The Warriors beat Dickinson State 3-0 and lost to Rocky Mountain College 3-0. For the weekend, Toribio averaged 4.83 kills with a hitting percentage of .355. She also averaged 4.67 digs and 1.33 service aces per set. Against Rocky, Toribio had 20 kills.
