Frontier Conference tabs Cortner as top attacker

WHITEFISH — Montana Tech senior Bailie Cortner capped her last regular season at Montana Tech in style.

Cortner, a 6-foot-2, middle blocker from Red Lodge, was named Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week, the league announced today.

Montana Western’s Dylan Fowler was named Defender of the Week, while Jonni Dorr, Carroll College was named the Setter of the Week.

Cortner led Montana Tech to  two wins in the last week of the regular season, averaging 5.86 kills per set with a .561 hitting average. The award is the third of the season for Cortner.

Cassie Krueger of MSU-Northern, Paige Montgomery of Carroll College, Savannah Smith of Rocky Mountain and Madison Wilhelm of the University of Great Falls were also nominated.

Fowler is a 5-5 sophomore libero from Belgrade. As Montana Western closed the regular season with two home losses to Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College, Fowler averaged 8.63 digs per set. That includes a career-high 36 digs against Rocky.

Butte High graduate Hannah Amtmann of MSU-Northern, Kennedy Chadwick of the University of Great Falls, Holland Fergurson of Rocky Mountain, Sabrina Hopcroft of Montana Tech and Natalie Kassa of Carroll College were also nominated.

Dorr is a 5-9 senior setter from Spokane. No. 17 Carroll College closed the season with two wins, 3-1 at Montana Western and at home 3-1 over Rocky Mountain.

Dorr averaged 13.38 assists and 3.63 digs per set.

Makenzie Bauck of Montana Tech, Hailey Copinga of Rocky Mountain College, Bree Davis of University of Great Falls and Emily Russell of MSU-Northern were also nominated.
