Frigid first half, Panthers too much for Central girls

BELGRADE — Butte Central couldn’t overcome a cold first half Thursday night, and the Maroons fell 36-32 to Belgrade in a non-conference girls’ basketball game at the Special Events Center.

The loss ended BC’s three-game winnings streak.

Bailey Christensen scored 12 points to lead the Panthers (8-5), who completed the regular-season sweep of the Maroons. Cheyann Tooman scored seven.

Belgrade, which held the Maroons scoreless in the second quarter, led 16-7 at halftime and 24-15 after three quarters.

Sofee Thatcher scored nine points to lead the Maroons (6-7). Tricia Joyce and Emma Keeley each scored five points for the Maroons, while Bella Sorini. Amira Bolton and Maddie Kump scored four apiece. Taylor Harrington tossed in one.

Butte Central will jump back into Southwestern A play Saturday when the Maroons host Hamilton at the Maroon Activities Center.
