Friday’s Hot Ticket: Hoops, wrestling, swimming

Flathead at Butte High, 6 p.m.

A pair of undefeated teams will meet when the Bravettes and Bulldogs open Western AA play at the Butte Civic Center.

Flathead comes to town at 4-0 with wins over the Great Falls and Bozeman schools. Madelyn Moy, a 5-foot-8 junior, scores 11.7 points per game to lead Flathead. Kennedy Moore, a 6-foot sophomore averages, adds 10 points and 11 rebounds. Clare Converse, a 6-0 senior, comes in averaging 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Bravettes, who already doubled their win total from last season.

Butte High is 3-0 with wins over Butte Central and the Bozeman schools. Senior Kodie Hoagland and junior Laura Rosenleaf both average 10.0 points per game to lead the Bulldogs. The 5-10 Rosenleaf, who came off the bench in the first three games, also averages 11.7 rebounds per game. Ashley Olson, a 6-3 senior, is averaging a tick under a double-double with 9.7 points and 11.0 rebounds.

The Bulldogs will play host to Kalispell Glacier at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Center.

Butte High at Flathead, 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs (0-3) hit the road looking for their first win of the season as they begin Western AA play against the Braves.

Junior Jace Stenson scored 14 points per game to lead Butte High. Kooper Klobucar, a 6-6 senior, averages 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds.  Junior Casey Merrifield adds 9.7 points per game to the lineup.

Flathead enters the New Year at 0-4. Senior Gavin Chouinard (6-3) is averaging 11.0 points per game to lead the Braves. Luca Zoeller, also a 6-3 senior, adds 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. Senior Joseph Hansen (6-5) scores 8.5 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds.

Butte High will stay in Kalispell for a Saturday afternoon game with Glacier.

Butte High and Butte Central at Tom LeProwse Invitational in Bozeman, 11 a.m.
The Bulldogs and Maroons head to one of the biggest and best tournaments of the season at Bozeman Gallatin.

The tournament is named after the Butte High Diamond B who is a sports legend in Butte and Bozeman.

Friday’s action begins at 11 a.m. Grappling starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday. For the first time, a girls’ tournament will be included in the event. Butte High will also enter a team at the Bozeman JV Invitational Saturday at Gallatin.

The Bulldog swimmers will be busy as they jump back into action following the holiday break. The meet will be the first of two for the Bulldogs this weekend.

Butte High will host a 17-team meet at noon at the Butte Family YMCA.
