Friday’s Hot Ticket: Digs, Dogs, Maroons, Cobras

Women’s college basketball
University of Providence at Montana Tech, 5:30 p.m.

The Orediggers (11-8, 1-7) return home looking to bet back in the win column when they open the Frontier Conference doubleheader against the Argos (13-7, 2-6) at the HPER Complex.

Tech is looking for its first win since the Orediggers topped Providence 75-63 Jan. 10 at the HPER. Since then, Tech dropped road games to MSU-Northern, Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College.

Mesa Williams scored 20 points to lead four Orediggers in double figures in the last meeting with the Argos. Kaylee Zard and Mollie Peoples each scored 15, while Tjaden Pallister tossed in 14.

Emilee Maldonado scored 22 points to lead the Argos. Tristan Murphy tossed in 20.

Men’s college basketball
University of Providence at Montana Tech, 7:30 p.m.
The Orediggers (13-7, 3-5) look to halt at three-game losing streak when they welcome the Argos (13-6, 4-4) to the HPER Complex for the night cap.

Tech beat Providence 77-74 Jan. 10 in Butte. That was Tech’s fifth win in six games. Since then, however, the Orediggers dropped road games at MSU-Northern, Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College.

Troy Owens Jr. tossed 22 points to lead the Orediggers in the last meeting with the Argos. Taylor England scored 16, while Nick Fitts scored 13, Derrius Collings netted 11, and Dylan Pannabecker scored 10.

Austin Starr scored 20 points, while Jaxen Hashley tossed in 17 to lead Providence.

Boys’ prep basketball
CMR at Butte High, 7 p.m.

The Richardson Gym will set the scene as the Bulldogs (2-7, 0-4) look to enact a little revenge against the Rustlers (8-2, 3-1) in the Eastern AA game.

Brenden Lindseth scored 18 points and Bryce Depping dropped 13 to lead the Rustlers to a 59-40 win over the Bulldogs Jan. 5 in Great Falls. Depping, a 6-foot-3 senior, averages 15.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to lead the Rustlers. Keegan Barnes, a 6-3 junior, averages 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Senior Clay Ferguson paces the Bulldogs with 14.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Ferguson enters the game on a roll. In three games last week, he scored a total of 70 points. Senior Danny McCloskey averages 10.9 points per game, while fellow senior Trevyn Roth adds 8.1 points per game to the lineup.

Senior guard Kash Kelly enters the game averaging 5.9 assists per game.

Prep wrestling
Butte Central Mixer, 5 p.m.

The Maroons will tune up for next week’s Western A Divisional meet when they host the mixer at the Maroon Activities Center.

BC hosts the Western A Divisional on Feb. 2. Butte High will also send wrestlers to compete in the BC event.

Hockey
Butte Cobras at Gillette, Wyoming, 7:05 p.m.

Butte opens a two-game weekend series against in the North American Hockey League Frontier Division game against the Wild..

The teams play again at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Butte’s next home game is Feb. 1 against Bozeman.
