Friday’s Hot Ticket

Following is a rundown of local sports action on the docket for Friday, Oct. 5.

College Volleyball
Great Falls at Montana Tech, 7 p.m.

The Orediggers will play at home for the first time in almost a month this weekend. First up in the weekend home stand is the University of Great Falls. Carroll College will be at the HPER at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tech is trying to stop a six-match losing streak, which includes losses at Great Falls and Carroll.

Freshman Kimmy Kavran leads the Orediggers — and the nation — with 529 digs. She’s quickly approaching the Orediggers’ single-season dig record, which is 608 by Kaila Minehan in 2002. Senior Shersteen Cline is the team leader in kills. Freshman Sydney Norris and sophomore Korey Krumm aren’t far behind. Freshman Alison Lunde leads the Frontier Conference in assists and the Orediggers with 18 aces. Tech is 11-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Great Falls is 13-9 and 4-4.

Prep Soccer
Butte High at Billings Senior, boys and girls at 5 p.m.

If it seems like the Bulldogs just played the Broncs, it’s because they did. In a race schedule quirk, the Bulldogs will play Billings Senior for the second time in four days Friday in Billings. The Broncs swept the Bulldogs at Bulldog Memorial Stadium Tuesday night, winning 3-0 in the girls’ match and 4-0 in the boys’ contest. Those matches were rescheduled because of smoky skies last month. Butte High will stay in Billings to play Skyview on Saturday.
