Butte High at Billings Senior, 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs couldn’t ask for a tougher test Friday when they open the season against the defending Class AA state champions. Butte High enters the season with some high hopes and a deep squad, which was evident by the play of their Purple and White scrimmage. The Bulldogs play Skyview on Saturday.
Butte Central at Tipoff tourney
The Maroons quest for a return trip to the state tournament when they play in the Northwest-Southwest Tipoff Tournament Friday and Saturday. BC opens Friday against Polson at 10 a.m. They play Columbia Falls at 1 p.m., Whitefish at 5, and the Corvallis JV at 8. On Saturday, the Maroons play Libby at 9 a.m. and Frenchtown at 11. Prep golf
Butte Central at Dillon Invite, 9 a.m.
The Maroons will play for the first time in nine days when they hit the road to play at the Beaverhead Golf Club. The Maroons are actually looking to play their first 18-hole tournament since the Aug. 19 Anaconda Invitational. The last two meets — in Livingston and Butte — have been cut in half by lightning.
Prep cross country
Butte High at Billings Invite, 4 p.m.
The Bulldogs will run for real for the first time this season when they hit the road. Butte High’s only competition so far was at the Purple and White meet two weeks ago.
