Frenchtown tops Maroons in four sets

FRENCHTOWN — The Frenchtown Broncs turned back Butte Central in a four-set non-conference volleyball match Friday night.

The Broncs took the opener 25-21 before BC tied the match with a 25-21 win in Game 2. Frenchtown, though, took the third game 25-21 before edging BC in a 28-26 battle in Game 4.

“We were very up and down tonight,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “At this point in the season our mental toughness and consistency need to be stronger.”

Emily Hinrichs pounded 15 kills to lead the Broncs, who won the kills battle 45-36.

Corbyn Holm killed 13 for the Maroons, while Mollie Peoples killed 12.

Emily St. John contributed for BC with 35 assists and 17 digs, while Taylor Wahl collected 17 digs in the loss. Peoples added nine kills and five aces.

“I know we are a better team than we showed tonight.” Hancock said. “It was a tough game, but we need to put this one behind us and look to the next tomorrow.”

The Maroons close the regular season at Stevensville at 1 p.m. Saturday. Next week, BC will be at the Western A Divisional tournament in Columbia Falls.
