FRENCHTOWN — Butte Central’s boys’ basketball suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 50-44 to Frenchtown in a Southwestern A game.

Brandon Finley and Hank Rugg each tossed in 13 points, while Zack Baker scored 10 to lead the Broncs, who won their fifth straight game.

The Broncs took control with a second quarter run that gave Frenchtown a 31-23 lead at halftime.

BC had the ball down trailing by three late in the game, but the Broncs held on for the win.

Frenchtown (9-3, 4-2) also got eight points from Cade Baker and six from Mason Pryor.

Jared and Matt Simkins scored 12 points to lead the Maroons, who fell to 12-1 overall and 6-1 in conference. The loss stopped BC’s 14-game winning streak that dates back to a loss to Hardin in the semifinals of the Class A State tournament in Great Falls.

Trevor Neumann tossed in seven points for BC, while Ryan Wahl scored three, and Gator Yelenich and Aaron Richards each tossed in two.

Next up for the Maroons is a Thursday trip to Anaconda for a non-conference battle with the Copperheads.
