Now through the end of the month, members of the public are allowed to cut their own Christmas trees in designated areas on the Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area (see map attached). This is part of a habitat management project to reduce Douglas fir trees on elk and deer winter range.
Tree cutters must have a permit which can be picked up at the FWP office in Butte* (1820 Meadowlark Lane). Two trees may be harvested per permit. Only one permit is allowed per household.
The Mount Haggin WMA will close for the winter on December 1.
*The Butte area office is open 12:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
