Game 2 of series is Saturday night
A two-run home run by No. 8 hitter Daulton Frank in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the difference Friday night as the Western Nebraska Pioneers beat the Mining City Tommyknockers 6-4 on Miners Field at 3 Legends Stadium. (Boxscore)
The Expedition League loss, which came in front of a rowdy crowd of about 200, drops the Knockers to 5-4 on the season.
Frank’s home run, which scored Jonathan Ponder, came after Ponder hit an RBI single to break a 3-all tie.
Mining City got a run back in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Cade McGee fanned Carter Dobrinski with the tying runs in scoring position to end the threat.
McGee struck out five in two innings of relief to get the win.
Miles Hartsfield and Thursday’s hero Jake Mastillo each smacked a pair of hits to lead the Tommyknocker offense. Dobrinski doubled, while Justin Greene and Mike Ruggiero singled.
The teams will play two more games as the Tommyknockers close out the home stand. Saturday’s game starts at 7:05 p.m., while Sunday’s finale begins at 5:35.
