Four Butte wrestlers lock LeProwse semis spots

BOZEMAN – Butte High placed four wrestlers in the semifinals with undefeated efforts during Friday’s rounds of the Tom LeProwse Memorial Invitational high school tournament.

The day’s rounds showed the Bulldogs in third place in the boys’ team standings. Butte High tallied 98 first-day points to rank only behind Billings West and Billings Senior, which posted 110 and 106 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs’ semifinalists are Keegan Hunt at 103 pounds, Kip Pumnea at 132, Mason Christian at 205 and Zach Tierney in the 285-pound weight limit class. All four won three bouts each. Hunt and Pumnea each pinned all three opponents each faced, Christian posted one pin and two technical falls, and Tierney had two pins and a decision.

The meet will end Saturday evening.

Cohen Grunhuvd, at 205 pounds, and heavyweight Kade Schleeman each won two bouts for the Bulldogs and are in good positions for place-winnings. Other Butte High wrestlers with each one win apiece and in contention for place-winnings include Lincoln Zell at 103 pounds, Ryder McEwen at 113, Bryson Hardesty at 145, Will Stepan at 145 and Trey Hansen at 152. Reid Whitlock contends at 138.

Butte Central’s Jack Holmes went 1-1 at 103 pounds to lead the Maroons’ efforts Friday.
