Former Butte High girls’ basketball players Lexie Nelson, Kabri Emerson and Joey O’Neill had big weekends for their college teams.
Nelson scored 22 points Saturday to lead Eastern Washington to a 78-70 Big Sky Conference win over Southern Utah at the Centrum Arena in Cedar City, Utah.
The win lifted the Eagles to 14-10 overall and 10-5 in Big Sky standings. With five games left in the regular season, Eastern Washington is two games behind Montana and Northern Colorado for first place in the conference. The Eagles play host to Portland State on Thursday.
Emerson scored a total of 24 points to help North Idaho College win a pair of road games.
Emerson scored a game-high 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds to help the Cardinals beat Snow College 60-44 Thursday in Ephraim, Utah. She scored 11 points Saturday in a 55-53 win over Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City.
The Cardinals are 27-2 overall and 12-2 in the Scenic Western Athletic Conference.
O’Neal scored eight points to help Carroll College beat Montana Western 64-60 Saturday in Dillon. O’Neill scored seven points Thursday in Carroll’s upset loss at the University of Great Falls.
The Saints have secured second place in the Frontier Conference and a first-round bye in the playoffs.
