Foley, Murray run to wins at modified Challenge
Big Butte Challenge

Don Foley and Nicole Murray ran to victories in the 11-kilometer race of Bruce’s Big Butte Challenge Saturday in Butte.

Mike Haynes and Sara Magalion picked up victories in the 5K race, while Chase Choquette and Kellie Jo Carpenter posted overall wins in the 1-mile run.

The course was altered this running because of the heavy snow and water making much of the traditional course impassable.

Foley won the men’s title in the long race, finishing in 34 minutes, 59 seconds.Nate Mooney took second among men in 36:38.

Murray’s time of 35:43 topped the women’s field. Michelle Bazzanella placed second at 42:39.

Haynes won the men’s 5K in 20:03. Mark Beattie took second at 21:07, while Joe Kambic took third at 22:21.

Magalion’s 27:02 won the women’s race. Sarie Nicholls took second at 27:51.

Choquesse’s 6:21 claimed the male title in the 1-mile race. Jonathan Gales was second at 8:18. Carpenter finished in 7:06 to win the female category. Cambree O’Neill placed second in 9:48.

In all 44 runners and walkers took part in the race named in honor of the late Bruce Robinson, one of the founders of Butte’s Piss & Moan Runners.
