Butte High had trouble cracking the goal line and dropped a couple of close shutouts Saturday in high school girls’ flag football action.
Head coach John Stenson reported the Bulldogs fell 12-0 to Boulder on two late Panther TDs and were nudged 6-0 by Three Forks. Both games were played in Boulder.
Butte High and the Panthers were scoreless with about two minutes left in their game. Boulder prevailed by scoring a touchdown, then picking off a Bulldog pass and taking it back to the end zone.
Stenson said Mackenzie Read had a big day with big runs on offense and tackles (flag grabs) on defense. He said Kayden O’Connor pulled in some big catches.
McKenna Ketchum was credited with “great play on both sides of the ball,” and Jayden Mason with a good game at center and a pass reception.
Defense, though, Stenson said, “ruled the day” and pointed to interceptions by Bulldogs Kynslee Wrampe, Chyanne Robinson and Charlie Richter.
The coach said the Butte jayvees’ defensive showing featured interceptions by Izzy Dawson, Reagan Denning and Bella Schrapps.
The Butte High flag football team will play at East Helena Tuesday night, then will be home at Naranche Stadium Thursday for games against Billings Skyview (4 p.m.) and Billings Senior (5:15 p.m.). The team will also be on the field Friday night for an intrasquad exhibition at halftime of Butte High’s football game with Kalispell Glacier at Naranche Stadium.
