Five-run fourth lifts Tommyknockers in opener

CALDWELL, Idaho — The Mining City Tommyknockers debuted with a victory.

Butte’s Expedition League expansion team knocked off the Canyon County Spuds 11-6 Tuesday at Wolfe Stadium. A five-run fourth inning put the Knockers up for good at 6-2. After the Spuds cut the lead to 6-5 with three in the sixth, the Mining City answered with three in the seventh.

Justin Greene smacked a pair of hits and drove in three runs to lead the Tommyknocker’s 14-hit attack. Seth Lucero, Miles Hartsfield, Jake Mastillo, Steven Strachan and Hayden Brown also had a two-hit night for the Mining City. Carter Dobrinski and Vinny Antinori added a hit.

A complete boxscore for the game is not available.

The teams will play again Wednesday and Thursday, at 6:05 p.m. Mountain Time both nights.

The Butte team will head to Casper, Wyoming for three games starting Friday. The Tommyknockers will play their first home game next Tuesday against the Spuds at 3 Legends Stadium. That will begin a six-game homestand. 1 comment
