The awards just keep on coming for the Butte High football team.
Five members of the 2012 Class AA State championship football team will represent Montana in the Knights of Columbus Badlands Bowl, which is June 15 at Connors Stadium in Miles City.
Representing the Treasure State will be Butte High seniors Zach Bunney, Bryce Armstrong, Drew Schleeman, Nick Butorovich and Anthony “Chunk” Moritz.
The five Bulldog players were also named to the West Team in the Montana Shrine Game, which is in July in the Mining City. Butte High coach Arie Grey will be the head coach of his former players in both games. Brian Arntson, Butte High’s defensive coordinator, will join Grey as an assistant on the Montana staff in the Badlands Bowl.
Bunney, Schleeman and Moritz, three two-way starters for the Bulldogs, also recently signed to play football at Montana Tech.
Bunney, who was a 1,000 yard back a year removed from missing most of his junior season while battling leukemia, will play running back along with Nolan Saraceni, a future Oredigger from Billings Senior, and Helena Capial’s Gunnar Brekke.
Armstrong, who will wrestle at State for the Bulldogs this weekend, will play receiver. That’s the position where he set the Butte High single-season record with 72 receptions in 2012.
Schleeman will play center on an offensive line that also includes Butorovich.
Moritz will play on the defensive line, the same spot the Orediggers plan to use him.
The quarterbacks for the Montana team are Helena’s Dawson Reardon, a future Montana Tech player, and Manhattan’s Quinn McQueary.
Other players from Southwestern Montana include receiver Austin Carver and offensive lineman Caleb Gillis of Dillon and linebacker Mac Bignell of Drummond.
Anaconda’s Joey Orrino, who signed to play at Montana Tech, was named as an alternative to the roster for Montana, which has won four out of the last five Badlands Bowls. The Treasure State leads the all-time series 14-5.
