Ferriter, Haeffner pick up wins at Montana Open

MISSOULA — Butte natives Sean “Diesel” Ferriter and Carly Haeffner picked up victories at the Montana Open Saturday at Dornblaser Field. Women’s results  Men’s results

Ferriter, a Montana State senior from Butte Central, won the hammer throw yet again. This time he was victorious with a toss of 203 feet, 1 inch. Teammate Zach Sharp was second at 192-7.

Montana’s Haeffner, a Butte High graduate, won the high jump by clearing 5-5. Teammate Alisa Gilchrist also topped 5-5, but Haeffner won on jumps.

UM’s Erika McLeod, also a Butte High graduate, placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 2.34 seconds. MSU’s Paige Squire won the event in 59.58 seconds.

Also at the meet, MSU’s Jacqueline Verlanic, an Anaconda native, placed third in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 170 feet.

UM senior Keli Dennehy, a Butte High graduate, didn’t run in the event. She ran at the Oregon State University High Performance meet in Corvallis, Oregon, on Friday.

There, Dennehy placed fourth in the steeplechase in 10 minutes, 35.12 seconds. Josphine Kiptebeny won the event in 10:19.63. (Results)
