HELENA — A fast start was not enough for the Butte High Bulldogs Tuesday night.
Butte High topped Helena High 25-20 in the first set of a Western AA volleyball match. The Bengals, though, stormed back to win the next three sets, 25-13, 25-10 and 25-19. (Butte High stats)
“We played an amazing first game and then got complacent,” Butte High coach Shane Jorgensen said. “We show moments of brilliance.”
Brooke McGrath paced the Bulldogs with eight kills and 22 digs. Teagan Kennis and Mollee Conlan each added seven kills for Butte High. Ashley Olson spiked four,
Two Butte High players reached double figures in assists, Katie Keller with 13 and Olivia Quinn with 10. Jordyn Bolton joined Keller with eight digs. Kennis dug seven, while Quinn and Conlan followed with six and five.
The Bulldogs, who fell to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play, will have a week before they play their next match. They travel to Missoula to take on Sentinel next Tuesday.
Helena High improved to 5-6 and 3-2.
