Falcons Spoil Senior Night for Bulldogs

By Coyt Stajcar
The Florence Falcons
came into town Friday night and defeated the Butte High Bulldogs, 15-6. The game did not affect Butte High’s seeding, but the Falcons were fighting to clinch the #1 seed in the southwest conference for state baseball next weekend.

Butte High started out hot. They jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after RBIs from Cayde Stajcar and Zack O’Connell. Tocher Lee and Gavin Trudgeon pushed across runs in the second. Alex Jorgensen roped a double to left center to extend the lead out to 5.

After the Dogs jumped out to an early lead, Florence made a pitching change. Jake Roth was put in charge to limit the damage for the Falcons. Limit it he did. He finished the game with 10 strikeouts and the W.

Caleb Katen led off the fifth inning with a solo shot. It was all Florence after that. They tallied 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Bulldogs pushed 1 run across in the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to start a rally. The Falcons put up another 4 runs in the seventh to jump out to a 9-run lead.

Walks and errors killed the Bulldogs. The boys in purple committed 7 errors and walked 10. With the troubles Butte High faced on Saturday, we are still proud of the 7 seniors. Thank you and good luck in future endeavors to Mason Armstrong, Derek Dunmire, Gavin Trudgeon, Alex Jorgensen, Quinn Cox, Kaden McGillen, and Zack O’Connell!

Butte high will look to clean it up and punch their ticket to the state tournament on Saturday. The boys travel to Livingston to take on the Park High Rangers at 2. The winner of that game will take on the #1 team out of the western conference.
