INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — A’Jha Edwards and Natalee Faupel once again led the way Friday as MSU-Northern knocked off Southern-New Orleans 73-54 in the second round of the NAIA women’s national tournament. Stats
Edwards, a 6-foot-5 senior, had a monster game. She scored 35 points and grabbed 28 rebounds to lead Northern (25-5), which advances to the round of eight. Her 35 points were a season high for Edwards, who set the tournament record for rebounds.
Faupel, a 2013 Butte High graduate, scored 16 points to go along with six rebounds.
Kishaun Williams scored 24 points to lead Southern-New Orleans.
Five Frontier Conference teams qualified for the tournament, and coach Chris Mouat’s Skylights and the University of Great Falls are the only ones still playing
Westminster College, which won the Frontier tournament and regular-season titles, bowed out with a 68-59 loss to Westmont (California). Stats
Great Falls beat Langston (Oklahoma 72-69) in Friday’s second round. Stats
Great Falls will play Oklahoma City in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Northern will take on 34-1 Freed-Hardeman (Tennessee).
