East’s Keegan Hunt wins Middle School state title

LEWISTOWN — Butte eighth-grader wrestler Keegan Hunt won the 95-pound state title at the Montana Middle School Championships earlier this month at the Fergus High School Fieldhouse.

As a team, the East boys placed second in the meet. The East girls brought home the team title.

On the girls’ side, the Bullpups scored 77 team points to edge second-place Cut Bank by one. Conrad placed third at 75, followed by Billings Darkhourse at 73.

Three of Butte’s six girl wrestlers placed third to lead the Bulldogs to the team title. Sophie Grunhuvd placed third at 112 pounds, Neveah Grunhuvd finished third at 125 pounds, and Mattie Stepan captured third at 140 pounds.

On the boys’ side, Team Champs from Billings lived up to its name, scoring 323.5 points for the title. East placed second at 288.

Hunt pinned teammate and classmate Darryn Rossiter in the championship match of the 95-pound division.

Ryder McEwen of Butte placed second in the 100-pound division, and Bridger Brancamp took second at 162. Butte East wrestlers to take third place were Revels McEwen (85 pounds), Colter Espelin (115) and Kohen Riley (160).

Brady Doyle took fourth at 85, Remington Grunhuvd placed fith at 75, and Jordan Scown placed sixth at 120.
