Eastern Oregon hands Tech its third straight loss

La GRANDE, Ore. — Kai Quinn passed for 295 yards and four touchdowns Saturday, and No. 19 Eastern Oregon beat Montana Tech 35-17 in a Frontier Conference game at Community Stadium. (Stats)

The Mountaineers avenged their 24-17 loss to Tech Sept. 8 in Butte. The loss was the third straight for the Orediggers, who fell to 3-4 on the season.

Eastern Oregon improved to 5-2 and stayed one game behind first-place Montana Western, which won at MSU-Northern.

Tech got on the board first, taking a 3-0 lead on a 30-yard Tyler Padilla field goal late in the first quarter.

Quinn, though, hit Brenden Kelly for 11 yards and Victor Dias for 74 to give the Mountaineers a 14-3 lead going into halftime.

Dias punched in a 5-yard touchdown run before catching a 7-yard TD pass from Quinn to break the game open in the third quarter.

Quinn hit Kaler Moore for 6 yards to extend the lead to 35-3 early in the fourth quarter.

Carter Myers got the Orediggers in the end zone. The junior linebacker picked off a Quinn and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown. The pick was the second of the day for Myers

Jet Campbell, a redshirt freshman who got the start at quarterback, hit senior Dion Williams for a 44-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring.

Williams racked up 127 yards on 10 receptions. Sam McCamley caught four passes for 51 yards, while Trevor Hoffman hauled in five for 43.

Campbell completed 22 of 40 passes for 244 yards. He was picked off once.

Jed Fike picked up 94 yards on 24 carries.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Naoki Harmer registered 11 tackles to lead the Orediggers. Jacob Clarke and James Foote each recorded a sack.

The Orediggers are home the next two weeks. They play Southern Oregon next Saturday before hosting Carroll College Nov. 3.

Tech closes the season Nov. 10 at Rocky Mountain College.
