Early double keys Helena High win over Butte High

HELENA – Ashley Koenig, Kendall Klemp and Maloree English belted two hits apiece as Helena High beat Butte High 6-1 Tuesday in a Western AA Conference high school girls’ softball game.
The Bengals scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to wipe out a 1-0 edge Butte High had gained in the top of the frame on an RBI single by Kamber Leary that brought in Dacelyn Lafond.
Lafond had walked to start the game then stole second base to gain scoring position.
Kalley May’s bases-loaded double in the bottom of the first sent Helena High ahead for good, the recap report from Game Changer Media said.
Faith Howard also doubled.
The Bulldogs were held to five singles by winning pitcher Rylie Schlepp and reliever Howard. Pitcher Rian Ferriter rapped two of the Butte High hits, and Lafond, Leary and Bryn Godbout each knocked one.
Butte High is now 1-6 for the season, 1-4 in conference games. All games have been road games, mostly due to wintery weather conditions at home. On Thursday, the Bulldogs will attempt again to start the home slate with a 5 p.m. league contest against Missoula Big Sky at Stodden Park.
Helena High is 10-1 for the season and 5-1 in Western AA play.
