A marquee tournament, a competitive smaller schools meet and a mixer get-together will open high school wrestling in Southwestern Montana this weekend.
Butte Central will hold its annual mixer on Thursday. Bouts are to begin at 5 p.m. in the Maroon Activities Center. Each entrant will wrestle two or three bouts, most likely, and team scores will not be kept. It is an early chance for lesser experienced contestants to delve into varsity wrestling competition. Butte Central’s entries will be joined by contestants from the Class A and B-C ranks mostly. Most will be from schools competing in Butte and Whitehall tournaments this weekend.
The Whitehall Duals tournament will be held Friday and Saturday with rounds to begin at 10 a.m. each day. Some Class AA and A junior varsities will join the Class A and B-C varsity teams in the field. The Butte High girls’ team will make its season debut on Saturday in the Flathead Invitational tourney at Kalispell. Matches are to start at 10 a.m.
The showcase competition will be the 34th annual Mining City Duals-Jim Street Classic tournament Friday and Saturday at Butte High. Action will be held in both gyms. Two-time defending state AA champion Flathead of Kalispell is the defending Mining City Duals-Jim Street Classic titlists, having defeated Butte High 42-27 last year.
Matches will start at 10 a.m. on Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The championship dual meet is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday.

3 p.m. – Great Falls C.M. Russell vs. Browning, Helena High vs. Frenchtown, Missoula Hellgate vs. Billings Skyview, Missoula Big Sky vs. Helena Capital, Great Falls High vs. Butte High No. 2.
