The second time on the court was an improvement for the Butte High tennis teams.

The Bulldogs did not pick up any team wins, but coach Dorothy Joyce said she liked what she saw from her team in matches against Belgrade, Bozeman and Gallatin in Belgrade and Bozeman Friday.

“They played much better this week,” Joyce said. “They were in a lot of games. The scores don’t really reflect how close most games were.”

Butte High’s girls battled to a 4-all tie with Gallatin. They fell 6-2 to Belgrade and 8-0 to an impressive Bozeman team.

Kennedy Lean picked up a No. 4 singles win against Gallatin. The Bulldog senior beat Julia Stevenson in a 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 thriller.

Ayrika Gerry and Maisy Taylor won in straight sets at No. 1 doubles. Katie Keller and Brooke McGrath pulled off a 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 victory over Anne Baldwin and Alivia Ballenger at No. 2 doubles.

Maya Dare and Rebecca Radoicich won in straight sets at No. 4 doubles.

Against Belgrade, Taylor was the lone singles winner for the Bulldog girls. She won in straight sets. Lean and Abby Ricketts teamed for a No. 3 doubles win, also in straight sets, against Belgrade.

On the boys’ side, the Bulldogs had to give up five forfeits to Belgrade and Gallatin. They surrendered six forfeits to Bozeman. They fell 7-1 to Gallatin and 8-0 to Belgrade and Bozeman.

Erik Johns picked up the only boys’ win of the day for Butte High. He won in straight sets at No. 3 doubles against Gallatin. In that same dual, Kayden Dziak dropped a 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 battle to Gallatin’s Braeden Butler in the No. 1 singles match.

The Bulldogs will be in action twice next week. They head to Missoula for a dual with Big Sky on Tuesday. They head back to Missoula to take on Hellgate and Helena Capital on Saturday.
