Dogs give Knights the two and a Q treatment after knocking off Hellgate

The heart attack kids were at it again today in loser out action and they did not disappoint.

Butte started with the tip and a quick score from Dyaln “Bobby” Bache for the Dogs to kick things off in loser out action against the defending state champion Hellgate Knights. Chance McNulty of Hellgate responded off a drive and jumper for 2.

Tocher Lee found his stoke early off a nice dish from Luedtke and he netted home a T 3 to give the Dogs a 5-2 lead, Butte High then forced a Hellgate turnover that led to a Rueso Battermann baseline jumper for 2.

Butte played with a spark and ignited a fastbreak bucket to Rueso Battermann, then followed by a scoop and score by Hudson Luedtke for 2 more and Butte led 11-2 with 3:50 to play, timeout Hellgate. Hellgate came out and Parker Link hit a corner 3 off a roll, 11-5 Butte.

Easton Sant launched a 30-footer and drilled it to cut the Bulldog lead to just 3 out of the regroup timeout. Butte was empty on their next two possessions, but Hellgate couldn’t find a bucket after 4 straight offensive boards. They were finally able to cash in a layup with 25 seconds to go and Butte took a 1-point lead to the 2nd quarter.

Hellgate started the 2nd off with a post entry pass and score to take a 1-point lead after trailing by 9 early on, but Bo Demarais found the bottom of the net on the Dogs next possession. Hellgate dominated the offensive glass early on affording them many second chance opportunities and they cashed in another two and it was 14-13 Hellgate.

Again, the Knights gobbled up offensive boards their next time down and cashed it in again for two more. Demarais was active down low and drew a foul but couldn’t connect at the line, 16-13 Hellgate.

Torre Tempel checked back in and scored a nice jumper for 2 to pull the Dogs within 1 but Easton Sant responded at the other end with a Hellgate triple with just under 4 minutes to play.

Hellgate continued to dominate the offensive glass and cashed in a baseline jumper off the glass, but Tocher Lee checked back in and splashed home a straight away triple and it was a slugfest 21-18 Hellgate with 2 minutes to play in the half.

Bobby Bache got a great offensive board and went back up off the glass for 2 and it was a one-point game and exciting first half back and forth, Matt Luedtke took a timeout with 21 seconds remaining 21-20 Hellgate. With .9 seconds left Luedtke found Bache under the bucket where he was fouled on the shot but hit just 1 of 2 at the line and the score was knotted at 21 apiece headed to the break.

Easton Sant led all scorers in the first half with 10 points as Hellgate controlled the boards 17-10. Butte High shot 44 percent from the field. Hellgate had 10 second chance points to Butte High’s 3.

Tocher Lee went right to work in the second half slicing through the key for a layup, but Hellgate responded immediately with a corner triple to go up 24-23. Colter Russell splashed home another triple for Hellgate to push the lead to 4 with 3 minutes gone by in the period.

Hellgate connected on 3 of 3 from behind the arc to begin the second half as they drilled another from deep to extend their lead to 7, timeout Bulldogs. Bo Demarais came out of the timeout and hit a nice shot for 2, 30-25 Hellgate. Hudson Luedtke finally got going as he buried a triple from the wing to cut into the Knight lead, but again Hellgate would respond with a jumper at the other end from the elbow, timeout Hellgate.

Brady Hanson got a board off a Torre Tempel miss and went back up scored and drew the foul, he couldn’t connect with the free throw, and it was 32-30 Hellgate with 1:48 to play in the quarter. Bo Demarais swatted Hellgate down low leading to a Knight turnover. Luedtke gave the Dogs their first lead with another triple from the opposite wing.

Both teams traded buckets on their next possessions and after 3 quarters of play Butte led 35-34. Hellgate began the 4th with the ball on drew a foul and hit 1 of 2 at line to tie it up at 35 apiece. Luedtke was on fire as he connected with his 3rd triple of the half after a quiet first half. Hellgate responded with a lay in, but Bobby Bach sent a reply from long distance and netted home another Bulldog triple, 41-37 Butte High.

The Knights responded on back-to-back possessions, but Tocher Lee drove the lane scored and drew a foul, 43-41 Butte High. Easton Sant went right to the rack off a great move and knotted things up at 43 with 5:15 to play. Rueso Battermann skied through the air for a board and put it back in with one hand to put the Dogs back up 2.

It was a slugfest as both teams continued to trade buckets, Demarais was an animal on the glass securing a board for Butte leading to two Rueso Battermann free throws at the other end, he hit 1 of 2 at the line, 46-45 Butte High. Hudson Luedtke continued to dominate the second half as he scored another huge bucket to put the Dogs up 3 with 2:38 to play.

After a Hellgate bucket to cut the lead to just 1 Butte took a timeout. Hellgate couldn’t cash in down low and Bobby Bache came away with the board and with 1:09 to play the Dogs held a 1 point lead and took a timeout to draw up a crucial play on their next possession.

With 31 seconds to play Batterman missed a layup, but the ball went out off Hellgate time out Butte High, 48-47. Tocher Lee hit 1 of 2 at the line and Hellgate couldn’t hit a layup and sent Torre Tempel to the line with a 2-point lead. Torre Tempel stepped to the line and hit two huge free throws to go up 4 and the Butte High Bulldogs knocked off the defending state champs 51-47.

Butte will play tomorrow at 1030. Hudson Luedtke led the Dogs with 13 points 12 in the second half he also had 3 rebounds. Tocher Lee had 11 points and 2 assists to go with 1 rebound, Dylan Bache had 8 points and hauled in 8 rebounds, Rueso Battermann had 7 points and 3 rebounds, Bo Demarais and Torre Tempel each had 4, Demarais also had 6 boards and a blocked shot, Brady Hanson and Bralyon Larson each had 2 points, Larson also had 4 boards and 1 block, Hanson had 2 rebounds and a block.

Easton Sant led the way for Hellgate and all scorers with 23 points, 4 boards and 1 assist.
