Dogs fall to a solid Billings West team, take 4th place overall

Butte set out on their final game of the season taking on the Billings West Golden Bears for a shot at 3rd place. Billings led early on 6-4 about 3 minutes into the ball game. Billings West attacked the bucket and scored a 2 ball, but Hudson Luedtke responded with a bucket of his own to make it 9-6 Bears.

Hudson Luedtke had 7 points to start the 1st after hitting a straight away triple to tie it up at 9. West High would find a bucket off the glass but couldn’t stop Hudson Luedtke and the score was 11-9 with 2:37 to play.

Hudson Luedtke continued to score as he had 11 of the Bulldogs 13 points after he cashed in another jumper inside the paint for two. West would respond with a 3 ball at the other end, and it was 18-13 Butte after 1 period of play. Luedtke scored to get the Dogs going in the 2nd quarter and it was 20-18 West.

Luedtke continued to be a force offensively and keeping the Dogs in it, 24-18 West with 5:30 to play in the half. Luedtke canned a deep 3 to keep willing the Dogs the best he could recording his 20th point of the half after another triple. He wasn’t done as Hudson had 22 of the 24 Bulldog points after hitting another bucket, and it was 30-25 after Bache hit 1 of 2 at the line.

After Hudson’s huge half the Dogs trailed by just 3 points at the break, Hudson led all scorers at the half as he tossed in 24 of the Dogs 29 first half points. The Dogs came out and hit back-to-back buckets after a Tocher Lee 3 ball to tie it up at 34 apiece. Torre Tempel hauled in an offensive board and went back up for 2 and it was 42-39 West.

West maintained a 5-point edge on the Dogs, Dylan Bache connected at the line for 1 of 2 to cut the West lead to 4 with 3:22 to play in the 3rd. Rueso Battermann hit a bank shot the next time down for his first field goal of the game and West High led by 6, 48-42.

West used great ball movement to bring their lead to 9 with 1:25 to play in the 3rd after a 3 ball. Bo Demarais hit a great shot off the feed from Tocher Lee, Demarais was fouled and connected with the freebie for a 3-point play. West High took a 7-point lead to the 4th and final quarter of the season.

Billings capitalized off two Bulldog empty possessions to begin the 4th and extended their lead to 11 with 6:23 to play.  Matt Luedtke received a T and West made both shots and took a 67-54 lead, Butte had just 4 fourth quarter points.

The athleticism of the Bears was a lot for the Bulldogs to handle as each time Butte would score West would answer and held an 11-point lead with 3:55 to play in the game.

Luedtke canned a 3 ball for his 30th point of the contest to cut it to 9 but again West responded with a jumper at the other end, 70-59 West with 2:54 to play. Braden Zimmer slammed one down with authority for the Bears their next time down and West led 74-61.

West was just too much for the Bulldogs offensively and went on to win 78-62.

Butte placed 4th in the AA after a great season where they spent much of the season as the # 2 seed in the west. Hudson Luedtke led all scorers with 30 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists, Dylan Bache had 11 points, he also had 4 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals, Bo Demarais had 8 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals. Rueso Battermann had 5 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal, Tocher Lee had 4 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal, Torre Tempel had 4 points, 1 rebound 1 assist and 1 steal.

West saw four players score in double figures, Branden Zimmer led the way with 20 points, Cooper Tyson had 13, Shaydon Randall and Mason Brosseau had 11 apiece for West High.
