Dogs close regular season with win at Belgrade

BELGRADE — Butte High’s wrestling team once again showcased its depth Saturday night, beating Belgrade 37-32 in a non-conference dual at the Special Events Center.

Butte High used a handful of backup wrestlers in the battle that closed out the regular season.

Three Bulldogs picked up pins to lead the way. Dominick Scown needed just 46 seconds to pin his opponent in a 170-pound bout, the shortest of the night.

Gavin Vetter picked up a first period pin at 126 pounds, and Wiley Dallaserra grabbed a second period stick at 132.

Kip Pumnea won by major decision at 120 pounds for the Bulldogs, while Anthony Liva edged Gage Meyer 10-6 at 145 pounds.

Butte’s Kameron Moreno, at 205 pounds, and Aiden Tierney, at 138, won by forfeit. Belgrade got a forfeit win by John Mears at 182.

Panthers Colton Gutenberg (103 pounds), Carter Schmidt (113) and Logan Linn (160) picked up pins for Belgrade. Brendan Gill (152) won by technical fall, and Zayne Konkol beat Zach Tierney in a 9-4 battle at heavyweight.

Butte High will head to the Western AA seeding tournament next Saturday in Helena. The state tournament is Feb. 14-15 in Billings.
