Dogs ace Capital to play for 3rd place against Billings West at 5pm

Butte High returned to action this morning at 1030 against the Helena Capital Bruins in loser out action. Hudson Luedtke started strong as Butte led 4-2 after the second deuce by Luedtke. After a Bruin turnover Bobby Bache made a great shot fake and canned a 15-footer.

Butte led 6-2, timeout Helena. Dylan Almquist got the Bruins going with a 3 ball from the left wing. Rueso Battermann got a great steal and a fastbreak layup to give the Dogs a 3-point edge. Capitals Gabe Fisher was found down low and hit a hook shot for 2.

Dylan Bache then connected with a 3 ball on the Dogs next possession for his 5th point of the quarter, after a empty Capital possession Luedtke came down a splashed home another triple for Butte, and the Dogs led 14-7 with 1:19 to play in the first.

Capital got a much-needed field goal with just 28 seconds left, and at the end of one Butte led 16-9. Rueso Battermann began the 2nd with a steal and a jumper to give the Dogs an 18-9 lead. Capital cut the lead to 7 off a scoop and scored down low on their next possession.

Bo Demarais found the bottom of the net on their next trip down, Butte led 20-11 with just under 5 to play in the half. Hudson Luedtke kept attacking Capital as they seemingly had no answer for the sophomore point guard and he laid it in off the glass with his opposite hand, timeout Capital.

Helena cut the lead to 7 after back-to-back buckets and missed trips by the Bulldogs, but Tocher Lee got a steal at half court and raced down court for his first 2 of the game. Butte took a 10-point lead to the locker room.

Hudson Luedtke had 9 points in the first half, while Rueso Battermann had 7. Butte shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, while Helena shot just 38 percent. Butte began the 2nd half with a bucket and a Rueso Battermann foul on a 3-point attempt, where he hit all 3 to give the Dogs a 15-point lead, 32-17. The Bruins finally got on the board in the second half off a lay in down low.

Capital cut into the lead after a 3 ball and it was 32-22 Butte with 3:18 to play in the period. Hudson Luedtke hit a nice floater in the key for Butte the next time down for Butte. Butte was perfect at the foul line as Tempel connected with 2-2 at the stripe to take an 11-point lead with 25 seconds to play. Butte led 36-25 heading to the 4th quarter.

Helena cut it to 9 points to start the 4th but only had 9 second half points. Dylan Bache scored his 7th point of the game on a nice find from Luedtke for two, Helena would respond with a deep 3 ball to keep within striking distance, timeout 39-31 Butte with 4:50 to play.

Bache found Torre Tempel on a nice cut to the hoop for 2 and Butte was back up 10. After 2 Helena free throws Bo Demarais cut to the basket and scored to make it 43-33 with 3:23 to play. Both teams traded free throws and Butte held a 10-point edge.

Capital hit a triple from the right wing and just wouldn’t go away, Rueso Battermann knocked down a clutch jumper in response for his 12th point of the game. Butte took a timeout with 1:21 to play, 48-40 Bulldogs. Capital kept it close but could never get within more than 7.

Butte High hangs on and wins 51-42 and will advance to play for 3rd place agaisnt CMR or Billings West.

Butte played great team hoops as 3 scored in doube figures, Rueso Battermann had 15 points, Hudson Luedtke had 12, Dylan Bache had 12, Bo Demarais had 6, Braylon Larson, and 4 apiece and Tocher Lee had 2 for the Bulldogs.

Kyler Meredith led Capital with 11 points.
