CALDWELL, Idaho — A two-run Carter Dobrinski home run in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Mining City Tommyknockers to a 4-3 win over the Canyon County Spuds Thursday night at Wolfe Field. (Boxscore)
The big fly helped the Tommyknockers win the three-game series 2-1. The Butte club is now 4-1 in series, and both teams are 9-5 after Thursday’s game.
The home run was the second of the season for Dobrinski, the Butte third baseman who plays his college ball for the Tarleton State Texans. It was part of a two-hit, three-RBI night.
Canyon County outhit the Knockers 6-4. Catcher David Melfi and left fielder Matt Morgan added singles.
Connor Phelan pitched two innings in relief to get the win. Starter Steven Strachan struck out five and walked one in five innings. He scattered three hits and gave up two runs, both of which were earned.
Bryson Vaughn doubled, and Noah Dehne hit two singles to lead the Spuds.
The Tommyknockers will now take the long bus ride to Casper, Wyoming to start a three-game series with the Horseheads Friday night. The next home game for the Tommyknockers is Tuesday against the Spearfish Sasquatch.
